The learners shown at the right agreed to tell their stories. We hope that the speakers represented on this page will give you an impression of what you can expect as a learner in our program. All are current LVR learners.

Brunella Campbell has worked with an LVR tutor for four months. She says tutors "help me out a lot with my reading … It's a very rocky road, but I'm still going on and it's a very good experience for me."

"Destined" and "John" prefer not to give their real names or to be photographed. We used "stock" photos to represent them.

"Destined" wants you to know about her progress. Before she started working with an LVR tutor, she couldn't understand the labels at the grocery store. Now she can read them! She also helps her daughter with homework.

"John" says he used to struggle with big words. "I came to Literacy Volunteers and they helped me pronounce big words, read better, and help me understand what I read … The tutor helps push me to do it on my own."
