About us

Our program during the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2007, included:

• 354 volunteer tutors
• 481 learners
• 20,116 hours logged by volunteers

Literacy Volunteers of Rochester, Inc. (LVR)

• Teaches basic reading and writing English language skills to adults
• Provides service free to students
• Offers two main programs
  • Adult Basic Education
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
• Provides service through volunteer tutors who receive more than twenty hours of training before they begin teaching
• Serves Monroe County, New York, where Rochester is located
• Is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; your donation may be tax deductible depending on your tax circumstances
• Is an accredited affiliate member of ProLiteracy Worldwide
• Was formed in 1964 and incorporated in 1971
