LitVol Leadership SocietyLiteracy Volunteers of Rochester has a leadership-in-giving society to formally and publicly acknowledge our most generous donors. The group is called the LitVol Leadership Society and its members are those individuals who contribute $250 or more to LVR's Annual Giving Campaign. Members of the Society receive an invitation to LVR's annual President's reception in recognition of their generosity. Over forty years ago, LVR began in Rochester as "Each One Teach One." The founders created an organization that reached out and assisted those adults who needed to learn how to read. Long-time tutors have told us that for many years the volunteers called themselves "LitVols," an endearing name that symbolized their dedication to LVR. The LitVols operated the organization before there was a professional staff; they provided training and tutoring, and kept the mission alive. Many of these loyal volunteers continue to provide leadership as LVR trainers, tutors, volunteers, and donors. In gratitude to the original pioneers and long-time LVR volunteers, the term "LitVol" was incorporated into the Society's name. |
