Getting Started
Tutor and student meet for a lesson
So you've read about our ABE and ESOL programs and want help with reading and/or speaking? Here are the steps to get started:
- We ask you, the person who wants tutoring, to please phone the office to schedule an intake appointment. We'll get some information about you over the phone and schedule a meeting with one of our volunteers or staff.
- At the meeting, we will help you set your goals.
- We will attempt to match you with an available teacher. We now have more learners than teachers, so you may need to wait until we can connect you with the right teacher for you.
- Once you meet your teacher, you can decide whether you both want to continue and where you want to meet, such as in a library or church with which Literacy Volunteers of Rochester has arranged for space.
Please note that our programs serve people in Monroe County (Rochester), New York.
