Using the LVR Library

Who may borrow materials from the LVR library?

LVR tutors, students, staff, and board members may borrow from the library.

How do I sign out books?

  • Remove white and green cards from the book pocket
  • Print your name and the current date (month/day/year) on each card
  • Put both cards in the container marked "cards from books borrowed"
  • Insert a "date due" card in the book pocket before removing the book from the library. Most pockets are on the book's inside cover; however, a few are on the inside or outside of the back cover. These "date due" cards must be returned to the library.
  • Follow this procedure for each book borrowed from the library.

How do I sign out book/tape sets, CDs, DVDs, and/or videotapes?

  • The same as books, except please take a "date due" card with a yellow strip at the top. This is because the loan period for audio and video materials is 2 months, while print materials have a loan period of 3 months.
  • Please do not remove the plastic bags with handles from their library location.

How do I return library materials?

  • Find the yellow return forms at the sign-out desk and fill one out.
  • Rubber-band materials together with the yellow return form and place them in the bin next to the sign-out desk.
  • Be sure "date due" cards are in the pockets.
  • Before returning tapes, please rewind and return to their proper containers.
  • If the office is closed, please leave materials in the mailbox to the left of the outer door. There are yellow return forms in the mailbox. You should fill one out so you will be credited with the return of your materials.

How do I renew library materials?

  • Renewals may be handled in person, by phone, by , or by mail. If renewing in person, renewal forms are available at the sign-out desk.
  • Renewal information should include the borrower's name, titles, and copy numbers of the materials being renewed. Materials may be listed on one renewal form.
  • Put renewal forms in container marked "cards from books borrowed."

How do I order books?

If you wish to purchase a book for your use or your student's use you may order directly from the publisher. A list of our principal suppliers is available next to the sign-out desk/book-return basket.

What are the borrower's responsibilities?

  • The borrower is responsible for all materials taken from the library.
  • The borrower is expected to pay for lost or damaged materials.
  • There is a limit of six items which a borrower may have on loan at any one time.
  • There is a limit of one audio or video item (book/tape set, book/CD set, CD, DVD, videotape) which a borrower may have on loan at any one time.
  • Books may be borrowed for up to 3 months with an option to renew for 3 additional months.
  • Audio and video materials may be borrowed for up to 2 months with the option to renew for 2 additional months.
  • Materials should be returned as soon after use as possible as a courtesy to other library users. If materials are one-of-a-kind and/or in high demand, renewal may be denied.

What if my library materials are overdue?

  • If books are overdue a reminder notice will be sent. We hope this doesn't happen too often; postage is expensive and our money can be better spent to expand our collections.
  • If the notice is not followed by the return or renewal of the books or by payment for the books, the borrower will be called. If the call does not produce the desired results, it may be necessary to revoke borrowing privileges.

What are the library hours?

  • The same as our office hours.
  • When the office is closed, you may return library materials by leaving them in the mailbox to the left of the outer door.
